-
Lighting Options – In an effort to reduce
energy consumption, Mera has installed energy efficient
light bulbs in both offices. Mera is pleased with the
outcome and looks forward to incorporating these results
into other areas.
-
Compact Fluorescent Lights – Mera has installed CFL’s in
all reception areas. These bulbs consume less energy and last
longer than standard halogen bulbs.
-
LED Lights – In its expanded office space,
Mera has equipped their boardroom with state-of-the-art
high efficiency LED light bulbs. These bulbs use less
than 10% of the energy of a halogen bulb, produce less
heat, and are so effective that fewer are required to
light the same space. The LED bulbs use only 14 Watts,
compared to the 160 Watts used by a standard halogen
bulb.
-
Replacing 19 halogen bulbs with 17 LED
bulbs will reduce Mera’s annual energy consumption by
almost 5,000 kWh. That is more energy than it takes to
regularly run a medium-sized air conditioner for one
year.
-
Workspace Improvement – Mera made a special
point to reuse, refinish, or repurpose as much materials and
office equipment as possible during its office expansion and
renovation with the goal of minimizing waste from
construction.
-
DIRTT Walls – DIRTT walls are sustainable
workspace solutions. These modular walls are faster and
more efficient to put in place, and require virtually no
changes to the existing workspace. Best of all, they
are completely transportable and can be moved as
workspaces change.
-
Mera refinished and reused the existing
doors and reception desk, as well as boardroom tables
and other office furniture and equipment.
-
Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup – Mera
coordinates the Regina Wascana shoreline cleanup. Mera and
volunteers spend the day collecting waste and debris from
the shores of Wascana Lake with the goal of beautifying the
park.
-
Mera has established an office culture of
reducing, reusing, and recycling and continues to look for
ways to reduce our environmental footprint.
-
Mera offices contain paper, plastic and
glass recycling bins.
-
Mera ensures clean, reusable, non-plastic
kitchen containers and utensils are always available.
-
Mera has replaced bottled water with a
water cooler and eliminated paper/Styrofoam coffee cups.
-
Mera encourages the use of digital copies
to reduce printing and wasted paper.
